China Town Overview

With many similarities with its namesake in areas of other major Cities, Chinatown Bangkok is a colourful and very busy area, packed with Market Stalls and Shops trying to sell everything created locally, or imported from China. It’s a great place to just wander around and see the sights, which apart from selling to the tourist, is still a living, working and trading area for the local people.
China Town Guide

The star attraction for Tourists visiting Chinatown is Wat Traimit (the Temple of the Golden Buddha) a nearly five meter high Buddha image weighing five and a half Tonnes, crafted in Gold and disguised from invading Armies during the Ayutthaya or Sukhothai periods. For most Western people the opportunity to eat authentic Asian cuisine where it is created is very exciting and visitors to Chinatown should try their specialties, mostly Southern Chinese (Cantonese) with Noodles, Seafood and lunchtime Dim Sum, dominating the menus. The traditional favourites of Birds Nest Soup and Shark Fin Soup are there for the connoisseurs.

Without the benefit of a Skytrain or Metro service, the best way to avoid the traffic, is to travel by Boat on the Chao Phraya River, always great fun. On arrival at the Ratchawong Pier, a short walk will take you to Sampeng Lane and Yaowarat Road, where at the Odeon Circle; a ceremonial Chinese Gate marks the entrance.
