Don Muang Airport Overview

Don Muang Airport, formerly Bangkok’s main International Airport and one of Asia’s busiest Hubs, was closed after the opening of the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport in 2007. Don Muang was nearly a century old and well known worldwide for its many attributes, including a Golf Course between the main Runways and a City location that provided relatively easy access to downtown Bangkok.
Don Muang Airport Guide

Don Muang Airport reopened for Domestic Flights in March 2008, following a refurbishment program and now operates around 140 Flights and carries 20,000 passengers daily. The use of Don Muang Airport itself, together with its well established infrastructure of Airport Hotels and supporting Business Services, will provide alternative travel options, for Domestic travel within Thailand.
Thailand’s Economic planning continues to emphasise the importance of the Country as a central focus point for South East Asia, with major infrastructure projects for Road and Rail connections, linking Thailand with Malaysia and Singapore to the South and Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam in the North and East, creating a gateway for the movement of goods and services to China. The continued operation of Don Muang Airport will ease the crowds at Suvarnabhumi Airport and provide additional proven infrastructure, if required, to meet the increasing demands of International and Domestic Air travel.
Don Muang Airport Maps
Don Muang Airport is located twenty four kilometres North of Central Bangkok, using the main Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. The new Expressway enables faster travel to the Airport, once joining the Toll Road network at its numerous intersections around Bangkok.
More Don Muang Airport Information
Airport schedules are subject to change, but it is clear that Don Muang will only be used for non-connecting Domestic Flights, which at the time of writing are served by three Airlines only, one of which being Thai Airways. The Airport still provides an opportunity to travel locally, at different scheduled times, than Suvarnabhumi Airport.
