Riverside Overview

Riverside describes the area where the Chao Phraya River (River of Kings) flows though Bangkok City on its journey from the highlands of Thailand’s Northern border, South to the Sea of the Gulf of Thailand. Chao Phraya is Thailand’s largest River, 365 kilometres long and for centuries has been the lifeblood of the Country, as a means of transport, for Agriculture, Fishing and previously for National Defence.
Today, the Riverside is a star attraction of the City, hosting many special events including Songkran (the Thai New Year) in April and the Loy Krathong Festival in November. The most amazing spectacle took place during 2006 with the Royal Barge Procession held to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the longest reigning Monarch in the World.
Riverside Guide

Modern Shopping Centres have not been developed as in other areas, but South East Asia’s largest Arts and Antique Centre is based here, offering a tremendous selection of Ceramics, Porcelain, Gold and Silver ornaments and rare items from around the World, with the River City Auditorium, hosting monthly Auctions for connoisseurs.
Sightseeing up and down the River is incredible, particularly when combined with a visit to the Royal Palace in the Old City and the numerous Temples and ancient Monuments that depict Thailand’s amazing history. Personally, I believe a Dinner Cruise on the Chao Phraya River is fantastic, with the lights of the Palaces and City Hotels providing the backdrop for sophisticated Dining on Board one of the luxury Cruise Boats, or at one of the five Star Riverside Hotels.
