Suvarnabhumi Airport Overview

The name Suvarnabhumi was chosen by HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and means "The Golden Land", specifically referring to continental Indochina, a traditional name for the Thailand-Cambodia-Laos-Burma region. Suvarnabhumi is difficult for Foreigners to Thailand to speak, until we know it is pronounced "su-wan-na-poom".

The Airport is located at Racha Thewa in Samut Prakan Province, thirty kilometres East of Bangkok City. Special Expressway Road systems have been built to feed traffic to the area and a four lane link Road brings traffic direct to the Terminals. The Skytrain (BTS) service which covers central Bangkok, will soon link directly into the Underground Rail link Station in front of the Passenger Terminals, providing rapid and cheap transit to the City.
